I had to scan 57 separate delicate little objects in one 8 hour day, with an Artec Space Spider. I'm generally a large scale terrestrial scanner guy, bridges and buildings and whatnot, but why not crosstrain or whatever. I had tried both the Artec Spider and Eva months ago, since they are in our building and we do use them from time to time, and I like learning things. I hadn't touched an Eva or Spider for like 10 months. It was a big big deal for me, since I had almost no idea what to do. Not local, I had to fly and hotel charges and all that. It's a regular high profile customer that asks for these things now and then.

Our regular technician was out because of something that happened, so I had to last minute cover a job. Just to follow up, I think I might be an expert now. As in it matches up with the FARO arm data (which is around. I generally do long range terrestrial scanning or FARO arm scanning, and mixing Artec data with FARO arm data has always been very good. We have always had great data from them too. Sort of like drywall guys, something you think is easy yourself until you see professionals do it and they are amazingly more fast and efficient than you. Our heavy Artec users are goddam wizards in my opinion. I rarely use them, so it takes me a bit longer, but if you are practiced in it, it goes very very fast. The guys I work with that do a lot of Artec Eva/Spider scanning would cut that in half probably. It would take me about 20-30 minutes for each scan you see there. The software processing probably took another 5-10 minutes, for cleaning up a bit, stitching together etc. I would assume those scans took maybe 5-10 minutes total each? Something like that.

It's very easy to work with right out of the box. I am by no means an expert, but it's not hard to be fairly good with the Eva or Spider. No unnecessary Blog Spam and NO OUTSOURCING ads!
